David Small is a Registered Psychologist providing in-person and virtual psychological service to Alberta residents.
David believes that personal distress is manageable and that most life stressors fall into three categories that include relationship difficulties, internal factors (troubling thoughts) and difficult life events (past and present). Depression and anxiety often occur when these factors are unresolved. He uses Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive-behavioural and solution focused strategies to help his clients develop manageable goals to reduce distress. David believes that every client has the capacity to make changes and the evidenced based strategies that he uses in his practice are an effective way to help overcome barriers.
He has developed areas of specialization in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder and he is also a strong advocate, and affirming counsellor, for the LGBTQ+ community. As an EMDR trained therapist he assists in reprocessing and decreasing emotional disturbances that his clients may be experiencing related to a traumatic event.
